Should I text her or not?
Yes, text her if you have a reason to get in touch, she has welcomed contact, and you are ready to let her choose whether to reply. If she has asked for space, declined further contact, or left several messages unanswered, leave the conversation alone.
The hesitation often comes from wanting a message to settle everything: whether she likes you, whether the date went well, whether you sounded awkward. A text can express interest. Her response, and what happens afterwards, will tell you more.
Sending the first message twice is not automatically a problem. The more useful question is whether she participates once the conversation starts. Someone who replies thoughtfully and suggests meeting is contributing, even if you usually say hello first.
What should I text her?
Send something connected to the conversation you actually had. If she gave you her number to stay in touch, or you have been chatting on an app, a simple message is enough.
You could adapt one of these:
- After meeting: “I enjoyed talking to you yesterday. How did your presentation go?”
- After a good date: “I had a lovely time tonight. Would you like to get coffee on Saturday?”
- After an unfinished conversation: “You were telling me about that terrible flat viewing. Did you find somewhere better?”
Choose one opening. Three questions followed by an apology for texting give her more to respond to than necessary. If you want to make your interest clear, a small, honest invitation gives her something concrete to consider.
Send the message when you have time to talk. There is no need to manufacture a delay to appear less interested.
Should I text her if she hasn't replied?
If your last message already asks a question or invites her out, give her time to answer. A few hours of silence leaves plenty unknown: she may be working, occupied or simply away from her phone.
One brief follow-up can be reasonable when you were already having a mutual conversation or arranging a date. Consider her usual reply pattern and whether anything needs deciding. An unanswered message sent during her working day does not need an evening reminder.
When a plan needs confirming, you could write: “Are we still on for tomorrow? I need to sort out my evening by noon.” If no confirmation arrives, treat the plan as unconfirmed and make your own arrangements.
If a follow-up also goes unanswered, stop initiating. You can leave the conversation there without sending a final announcement or finding another channel to reach her.
Should I text her if I always text first?
Look at the whole exchange. Does she ask about your day, remember something you told her or help arrange a time to meet? Those actions give you more context than who starts each conversation.
If the effort keeps feeling uneven, notice whether she asks questions back. Short answers, unanswered invitations and no effort to continue can leave you carrying the conversation. You are allowed to decide that this level of contact does not work for you.
You can stop starting every exchange without turning the pause into a test. Keep making your own plans. There is no need to monitor whether she notices your absence.
Should I text her after an argument or breakup?
After an argument, a message can help if contact is welcome and you have something specific to take responsibility for. Keep an apology focused on what you did, without requiring her to reassure or forgive you.
For example: “I'm sorry I interrupted you and dismissed what you were saying. That was unfair. I'd like to listen when you're ready.” If she has requested no contact, respect that boundary, including when you want to apologise.
After a breakup, missing her can be part of getting over the relationship. Before sending a message, name its purpose. Returning her keys has a practical purpose; asking whether she misses you may reopen a conversation she has already ended.
The short version
- Text her when contact is welcome and you have something clear to say.
- Send one message that is easy to answer, then allow time for a reply.
- Consider the effort she makes across the conversation, including questions and plans.
- Respect requests for space, clear refusals and silence after a follow-up.
