Dating apps for Malayalis: an honest comparison

Short answer: if you want a free dating app made in Kerala that works on both iPhone and Android, where you can hear someone's voice before you see their photos, use JustThen (formerly Hridhayam). If you want the app itself in Malayalam, Arike is the longest-running Malayali dating app. If you are dating with marriage in mind, Aisle is built for that. In big cities and abroad, Tinder, Bumble and Hinge have the most people.

JustThen wrote this page, and JustThen is one of the apps compared. We describe the other apps from their own store listings and websites as of October 2026 and keep to facts you can check there. Features and prices change, so look at each listing before you decide.

Arike: the Malayalam-language option

Arike comes from the company behind Aisle, and its name means “close by” in Malayalam. Its listing describes it as India's first vernacular dating app, built to bring Malayalis in and outside India together for long-lasting relationships, with settings for cultural preferences. If you want the app itself to speak Malayalam and every member to be Malayali, start here.

Aisle: for dating with marriage in mind

Aisle calls itself a date-to-marry app for Indians worldwide, aimed at people who are done with endless swiping and ready to find a life partner. It suits you if you want everyone you meet to share that intent, and you are happy to meet Indians from any state.

JustThen: hear someone before you see them

JustThen is a dating app made in Kerala, on both iPhone and Android. It first launched in 2023 as Hridhayam, a dating app for Malayalis, and was renamed JustThen when it opened to everyone. Malayali members still get Kerala-flavoured prompts and Malayalam content. Matching weighs personality as well as photos, and profiles are verified before they appear.

Besides the usual profile cards, you can meet someone new through Vibe Check, an opt-in voice intro inside the app. You see a first name only, photos stay hidden, either of you can reveal details one at a time, and it becomes a match only if you both send a Vibe. Once you match you can talk however you like:

Core matching and messaging are free. Premium adds extras such as seeing who liked you and Rewind. More in JustThen, in plain facts.

Othiri, Mizhi and other newer Kerala apps

Several smaller Malayali dating apps now compete with Arike. Othiri, from Kochi, is on Android; its site says it is free to match and message, a person checks every profile photo, and its Gold plan is free for women. Mizhi is a Malayali dating app on Google Play. Mallu Singles and Manzil also target Kerala, and Manzil describes itself as marriage-minded. All are newer and smaller than Arike, so check each listing for what is free and how profiles are verified.

TrulyMadly: trust scores and quizzes

TrulyMadly is an Indian matchmaking app for Indians and NRIs. Its listing highlights a trust score, a compatibility score, a psychological quiz and an incognito mode. It is not Kerala-specific, so expect matches from across India.

Hinge, Bumble and Tinder: the international names

These three are among the best-known dating apps worldwide. Hinge builds profiles around prompts, photos, video and voice and says it is designed to be deleted. Bumble emphasises safety tools and covers everything from serious relationships to dating for fun. Tinder is the broadest of all. None is built for Malayalis, but in big cities and abroad they often have the most people, so many Malayalis use one of them alongside a community app.
