Dating safely on JustThen
Meeting someone new should feel exciting, not risky. JustThen gives you tools that lower the risk, and this page covers what they do, what they cannot do, and the habits that keep you safe from the first message to the first date.
If you are in immediate danger, call your local emergency number now. In India, dial 112.
What JustThen does to help
- Identity-verified profiles. Profiles go through identity verification before they appear, so the person you are talking to is more likely to be who they say they are.
- Vibe Check stays anonymous. A Vibe Check is a short voice call with no photo, no name and no video. Either person can end it at any time, and profiles are revealed only if you both choose to.
- Everything is optional. You never have to use voice notes, calls or letters. You can keep to ordinary messages for as long as you like.
- Block and report. If someone makes you uncomfortable, block them and report them from inside the app. Reports go to the JustThen team.
Verification reduces risk; it does not remove it. A verified profile tells you a real person made the account, not how that person will behave. Read more in what "identity verified" actually proves.
While you are chatting
- Keep early conversations in the app. Move to WhatsApp or a phone number only when you have a reason to trust the person.
- Never send money, gift cards, crypto or bank details to someone you met online, however good the story. Requests for money are the clearest warning sign there is.
- Be careful with personal details such as your home address, workplace, daily routine or ID documents.
- Watch for the scam script: fast declarations of love, a reason they can never video call, then a sudden emergency. Here is how that script usually runs, and nine signs a profile is fake.
- Moving to a call? Our guide to moving from app chat to a real call safely covers what to check first.
Meeting in person
- Meet somewhere public and busy for the first few dates: a café, a mall, a well-used beach walkway.
- Tell a friend who you are meeting, where and when, and share your live location if you can.
- Get there and home on your own terms. Arrange your own transport rather than accepting a lift from someone you have just met.
- Keep your drink with you and stay sober enough to make your own decisions.
- Leave whenever you want. You do not owe anyone the rest of the evening. Feeling uneasy is reason enough.

- Women's helpline (India): 181.
- Online fraud or scams (India): call the cyber crime helpline 1930 or report at cybercrime.gov.in. Report money fraud quickly: the sooner it is reported, the better the chance of stopping the payment.
